The residence network is a University run service that provides online connectivity in your residence. The residence network allows wired and wireless connectivity to IT services on campus and beyond. You have access to Minerva, Office365, Library resources and some local departmental services all from your room. This is a fully supported and secured internet connection managed by the University to meet your academic needs.
There are two ways of connecting to the residence network, wireless and wired.
The wireless network is provided by eduroam, the same service as on campus. You need to authenticate to the network using your University email and password. This will allow you to connect 5 simultaneous devices.
Games consoles, televisions and wireless printers are not compatible with eduroam and will need a wired connection to work.
The wired network is exclusive to the residences. You will need a cable, available from the residence site office. Once youve plugged the cable in, your internet browser should automatically redirect you to the registration page. You need to use your University username (NOT email address) and password to connect.
You can set up your games console, television or wireless printer on a wired connection, using the socket in your room.
You should have received a handbook called "Get Connected" for the residence network when you arrived in your room and there is more on using the residence network on the IT website.
