Banner is the University's Student Information Management System (SIMS). It covers almost every aspect of student administration; from recruitment and admissions, enrolment and registration, student progression and degree classification. Banner also supports the generation of essential statistical information such as the HESA return for the UK government.
Banner SoftwareMost staff computers will have links to Banner already on their computer and available through the Start Menu. However it may be the case that you will need to get them installed. A user with Administrator rights should be able to do this for you or you can speak to your Super User or the IT Service Desk to get them set up.
Due to the sensitivity of the data and security reasons, access to Banner is limited to authorised members of staff only. Access to the system requires that you attend the training and submit an Application for Banner Username form.
To gain access to Banner you must undertake the following steps;
Step 3 - Attend the B200 Banner Navigation course and at least one other training session.
Banner Navigation is offered at the beginning of each month and is a prerequisite for all other Banner courses. The second session you attend may depend upon your role, however, attendance of B400 Enquiry & Reporting is strongly recommended.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled training; local training can be provided by a Banner Super User.
Step 4 - Once your Application for a Banner Username form has been processed, and you have attended two training sessions, a username and initial password will be generated and issued by the SIMS Security Team.
There is more information on Banner on the SIMS website. If you are experiencing technical issues with Banner and your Banner Super User cannot advise, please contact the IT Service Desk. For training enquiries please e-mail email@example.com, or alternatively you can contact Dan O'Rourke on 0113 34 38008.
