Mobile devices can include mobile phones, tablets, iPads and laptop computers. If youre using a work device or using your own device for work there are resources available to help you to set it up correctly. There are also some important policies and guidelines you need to be aware of.
The first thing youll probably want to do is connect your device to the university Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi at the University is called eduroam. It's free and available in most buildings on campus. Once youve connected your device it will connect to the internet in many of the buildings across campus, halls of residence and also at other institutions which use the eduroam wireless network.
Accessing your work emails
You can set up your device for staff email easily and you can find instructions on how to do this for multiple devices on the IT Services website.
To use your device when youre working away from the office, you'll need to setup Desktop Anywhere. It allows you to run certain applications anywhere you have a wireless, broadband or better network connection.
Apps and OneDrive
Files stored in OneDrive can be accessed on any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. They can also be downloaded for offline use as well. You can also use Microsoft Office online to create, edit and share documents, spreadsheets and presentations without needing to download the full Microsoft Office package and there are also dedicated mobile applications (which needs to be downloaded separately).
