The University is actively engaged in trying to reduce its environmental impact and one of the ways in which members of staff can help is by being aware of the small things they can do to help save energy. Visit the University sustainability website to find out more.
You can help save paper and energy by not printing things unnecessarily, by using scrap paper for draft work and printing double-sided if possible.
Your computer should already be set up to go into sleep mode if unused for a period of time. Switching off your machine at the end of the work day also helps to keep energy usage down.
Recycling printer paper is important but did you know that printer cartridges (ink or toner) are also recyclable? Take these to your nearest collection point for collection by our waste management contractor. A list of collection points and other recycling information can be found on the Sustainability website.
If reusable, computers and other IT equipment should be offered to other departments on the reuse@leeds website. If unsuccessful and the item is being replaced with new, an agreement exists with Stone Computers to take back old IT equipment and computers irrespective of their brand or age or if they are being replaced. The only exception to this is if you are disposing of servers or specialist IT equipment. If items are not of a reusable quality, contact Cleaning Services to arrange collection on 0113 34 33432.
